Your Wedding Day Packing List||Austin Wedding Photographer

There are so many things to get done the week of your wedding!

When I was a few days away from my big day, I realized that I had a lot to get together and pack. At first I just thought I had to pack for the honeymoon, but then I realized so many things needed to go with me to the getting ready space and to the venue.

I got so stressed with all of the last minute things that I ended up packing the rest of my honeymoon suitcase after the reception was over. Looking back on it, I should have made my packing list a few weeks ahead and packed before the final week.

I want to help you not make the same mistake as me. If you pack early, you can wake up and enjoy the morning of your wedding. Everything will be packed and ready to go, and you won’t be rushing around hoping that you have everything.

Here is a categorized list of things you need to have packed for your wedding day, starting with details for your photographer.

Detail Photos List

This will be everything your photographer needs to take those styled detail photos at the start of the wedding day. Make sure to have two separate boxes, one for you and your fiance.

Here is what to include:

  • A full wedding invitation suite with an addressed envelope if you have it

  • Garter

  • Perfume

  • Jewelry

  • Family heirlooms

  • Tie or bowtie

  • Cuff links

  • All rings

  • Any spare fabric from your dress

  • Shoes

  • Pocket square

  • Shoes

  • Fresh florals and greenery

  • Veil or hair accessories

Ceremony Checklist

If you have a wedding coordinator/planner, all of these items will be collected by them.

  • Signage

  • Ceremony programs

  • Aisle markers

  • Seat/pew decorations

  • A copy of your vows (If you wrote them in a vow book, make sure you have an extra copy)

  • Marriage license (Your officiant will probably ask for this the night of your rehearsal

  • Tips for your vendors

  • Items for ceremony like unity candle, foot washing basin, communion items, etc.

Reception Checklist

Even if your ceremony and reception are in the same location, the items for each still need to be separated. You don’t want to rely on your memory for your wedding day. And if someone else is decorating for you, you don’t want to have lots of calls or texts asking where everything goes.

  • Cake topper

  • Table numbers

  • Menus, signage, seating chart, etc.

  • Champagne flutes

  • Any display photos

  • Guestbook and whatever goes with it

  • Card box

  • Personalized items like napkins, cocktail sign

  • Favors

  • Items for your getaway car

  • A checklist of where items need to go after the wedding

If you brought items like vases, linen napkins, candles, the person setting up needs to know if you want them back and who is taking them. Is a family member taking them to your house while you’re on your honeymoon? Is a friend keeping them until you come back?

Here’s what should go in your overnight bag:
